My Favorite Characters

Michaelangelo was my favorite turtle as a kid, and is still my favorite turtle to this day.

I've tagged Michaelangelo as "Deserves Better" because, as I have been rewatching the 1987 show as an adult, I realize that the writers made it so that poor Mikey is the butt of every joke. The other turtles are mean to him all the time, and it is just unwarranted and upsetting. Apparently the writers knew Michaelangelo was the fan-favorite, but for some reason decided to punish us for liking him, I dunno.

Mr. Seudo is a character from the CyanWorlds game Spelunx, a game that made up a very important part of my childhood. Although I say Mr. Seudo is a character from the game, you never meet him. In fact, you meet no characters in Spelunx. Instead, you explore the vacant cavern home of Mr. Seudo and Dr. Spelunx, who are currently off visiting Planet X. While the two of them do not appear in the flesh, Mr. Seudo's likeness in particular does appear in a few places. You can use him as the main character of animation sequences, move him around inside an interactive picture frame, read his story in the books in the library, and generally gain a sense for his personality based on how he and Dr. Spelunx designed their underground home.

I've tagged Aughra as queer because, while the current Dark Crystal related marketing seems to be hell-bent on emphasizing Aughra's feminine aspect (don't get me started on Funko Pop and their gender-coding eyelashes, blargh), Aughra's design is clearly based on the unity of opposites, keeping all things in balance, with reference to Baphomet and related concepts. The Dark Crystal novelization says that Aughra is both male and female, and Jim Henson himself declared the novelization canon, so that's what I am using as evidence here.

I know it's something of a joke to hate on Zubat and how ubiquitous it is, but Zubat and its evolved forms are some of my favorite Pokémon.

I am a fan of both Meowth the Pokémon in general, and Team Rocket's Meowth in particular.

Celio would be one of my top requests of characters to add to Pokémon Masters EX. Shipped with Bill, of course.

I've always appreciated how much of a wonderful jerk the rival is in the Generation I Pokémon games. And, much much later, I liked the treatment he got in the Let's Go games - he is in the role of a mentor and we get to see his more sensitive side. But it was Pokémon Masters EX that convinced me to add him to my favorite character list! I like how his entire relationship with the player is in function of his relationship with Red. I like how he is so patient with Red low-verbalness, to the point that he doesn't even like, note it at all. He often seems to immediately understand what Red would want to say, and acts as an interpreter it for him. I like how the rival is a tough teacher for the player, but doesn't believe in overdoing it. He understands that it's just as important to take a rest and enjoy a reward as it is to train. I like how he teases the player and even outright flirts. He says some things in the game that I suspect got past the radar, heh.

While From Up on Poppy Hill is an enjoyable movie with an interesting main plot, there also is the secondary character of Shiro Mizunuma, the Student Council President, who really grabbed my attention. The thing about him is how he is able to read a situation immediately and then simply do whatever minor thing is needed to have things go in the way he intends them to go. His introduction in the movie is to open a door, direct the main characters to meet and start their story; he then offers to accompany another girl out of the building, who he ends up dating. Shiro is smooth and in control and does every action with intention. It is also really sweet how he uses his "powers" unselfishly, creating multiple opportunities for the two main characters to be alone together in a romantic setting.

I tagged Leon as a kinkster because... Rosy pointed out that he is wearing a harness that runs directly over his nipples, and now I can't unsee it.

I tagged Lupin as being green in honor of his green jacket appearances. While the green jacket series might be my favorite overall, I also enjoyed the red-jacket series and pink-jacket series (I haven't seen the other jacket colors yet).

I've tagged The Jester as queer because Lady Luck only uses gender-neutral pronouns when referring to them, making me think that The Jester is non-binary. Gameplay-wise, the Jester can do anything and, in a sense, become anyone, so it makes sense that they would be a genderfluid and/or gender neutral character as well.
